Houston, Texas-The San Jose State volleyball team finished second at the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup with a 2-1 record after falling to Houston Baptist, 3-1, (23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23) Saturday afternoon.
For the third consecutive match, Summer Avery led the Spartans with 12 kills, Nandyala Gama added 11 kills. Gama had her best blocking match of the season with a team-high nine block assists. Breann Robinson recorded 37 assists and six block assists.
The Spartans hit just .139 for the match but outblocked HBU 12-8. Hana Tresnáková recorded two of the team's five service aces. Two Spartans had double-digit digs - Luiza Andrad with 13 and Tresnáková with 11.
For their efforts this weekend, Gama and Robinson were named to the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup All-Tournament team.
San José State stays in the state next weekend, traveling to San Diego for the USD/SDSU Invitational where the team plays former Big West foes Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara.
