Davis, Calif.----- San Jose State University split a pair of men's water polo matches on the opening day of the Aggie Roundup on the UC Davis campus.
The 17th-ranked Spartans (2-2) topped #16-ranked Cal Baptist, 12-10 in overtime, and lost to unranked Fresno Pacific, 11-8.
Alek Dendall scored with 2:32 left in regulation and four other Spartans each scored a goal in the overtime periods as the Spartans defeated #16-Cal Baptist, 12-10 in overtime, of their opener.
Marc Weber, Davor Koret, and Zach Scudder each scored twice for San Jose State. Koret's goal with 0:11 left in the second overtime was the match clincher.
Back-up goalkeeper Todd Palmer played the second half and the overtimes. He was credited with a season-high 12 saves in the win.
In the nightcap, the Spartans led 6-5 at halftime, but the Sunbirds broke a 7-7 tie with four consecutive goals in 3:06 span in the third quarter en route to the victory.
San Jose State had a tough day on its power play. The Spartans were 0-for-7 in the loss to Fresno Pacific and 0-for-8 in the win over Cal Baptist.
The Spartans conclude play in the Aggie Roundup with matches against Redlands and host UC Davis on September 18.
