Irving, Texas----- San Jose State University football co-captain Tim Crawley is one of 156 semifinalists for the 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy presented by Fidelity Investments in an announcement made by the National Football Foundation (NFF) and the College Football Hall of Fame.
The trophy winner embodies the best football scholar-athlete in the nation.
From the 156 semifinalists, 12 to 14 finalists will be named on November 1. The finalists will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and be presented at the 59th annual National Football Foundation's Annual Awards Dinner in New York. At the awards dinner, the William V. Campbell Trophy will be awarded to one finalist whose postgraduate scholarship will be increased to $25,000.
One of the most versatile Spartan football players since he joined the program in 2012, Crawley is a wide receiver and return specialist on this year's team. Crawley caught his 100th career pass in the season opener at Tulsa and is the team leader in pass receiving heading into the October 1 game at New Mexico.
The business management information systems major graduated magna cum laude from San Jose State in May 2016. He is enrolled in the University's interdisciplinary studies master's degree program.

"These 156 impressive candidates truly represent the scholar-athlete ideal," said Archie Manning, chairman of the NFF. His sons, Peyton and Eli Manning, were NFF Scholar-Athletes before embarking on Super Bowl winning careers in the National Football League. "This year's semifinalists further illustrate the power of our great sport in developing the next generation of influential leaders."
Each NCAA Division I, II and III and NAIA institution is encouraged to nominate one football student-athlete in his final year of his eligibility. The nominee must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, be a first-team player or significant contributor to the team and demonstrate leadership and strong citizenship.
Crawley is one of six players nominated from a Mountain West member and one of six nominees from a California-based school that sponsors football as an intercollegiate sport.
