SPARTAN QUICK HITS:
San José State is playing their third consecutive road game, losing the first two at Oregon State (L, 3-0) and at Portland (L, 2-1, OT). The Spartans play five of their first six games on the road to open the season.
Four different players have scored a goal this season, including a career first for sophomore Andrew Mendoza, on a game-winning penalty kick against Pacific. Senior defenseman Kyle O'Mahoney scored his second career goal against Portland to tie the game at one apiece. Senior Rory Knibbs' goal against Pacific moved him to a third place tie on the all-time WAC goal list (29) and fourth place tie on the all-time WAC points list (63). Senior Jonathan Colunga is the only Spartan with a goal and an assist this year and leads the team in points with three.
TOBIN-GUNN CONNECTION:
Stanford head coach Jeremy Gunn played for San José State head coach Simon Tobin at CSU Bakersfield from 1989 to 1992. Gunn later served as an assistant under Tobin for seven years at CSU Bakersfield. The two remain close as Tobin officiated the marriage between Gunn and his wife in 2015.

STANFORD RANKING:
The Cardinal are ranked #24 in the latest NSCAA rankings with a record of 0-1-3. The defending national champions played two top-five teams last week, losing against fourth-ranked Notre Dame (L, 2-1) and tying against fourth-ranked Indiana (T, 0-0).
SERIES HISTORY WITH STANFORD:
Stanford leads San José State, 30-27-7, in the all-time series dating back to 1954. Currently, the Cardinal have a four game unbeaten streak against the Spartans going back to 2008. Spartans had a six game winning streak versus Stanford from 1974 to 1978, winning twice in 1976. Stanford's longest streak is an eight game unbeaten streak from 1998 to 2005, going 5-0-3 during that span.
NCAA STATISTICAL LEADERS (THROUGH 9/5):
Nedin Tucakovic, a sophomore goalkeeper, is 19th in the nation in saves with 18 and 16th in goalie-minutes played with 386:04. The San Diego State transfer shutout UC Davis in double overtime in his Spartan debut. Logging 110 minutes of playing time, Tucakovic made four saves. In his second game, against Pacific, Tucakovic had five saves including on a penalty kick to keep the score at 2-2. The Spartans eventually won, 3-2 on a made penalty kick by Andrew Mendoza.
SHOOTING DISCREPANCY:
San José State has been outshot in each of its four games including shots on goal and corner kicks. For the season, the Spartans have been outshot 78-48, including 26-12 on shots on goal and 28-10 on corner kicks.
