Gávio Leads All Hitters In Kills Versus Boise State

San Jose, Calif.--Spartan Giulia Gávio led all hitters with 14 kills Thursday night, but the San José State volleyball team fell to Boise State 3-0 (25-14, 28-26, 25-18) in a Mountain West match at Spartan Gym.

Gávio was the only Spartan hitter with double-digit kills and recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 10 digs. The Spartans hit only .145 for the match with 35 kills on 124 attempts and 17 errors. Thaliana Grajeda led the Spartan hitting attack at .353 (6-0-17).

Luiza Andrade led the Spartans in digs with 16, while Breann Robinson had 27 assists. Nandyala Gama led the blocking attack with five blocks, two solo and three assists.

The Spartans lost the first set 25-14, but hit .235 with 11 kills on 34 attempts and only three errors. In the second set, the two teams battled back and forth at the end. San José State had set points at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25, but Boise State scored three consecutive points to win 28-26.

The Broncos won the third set 25-18 for the win and were led by Maddy O'Donnell with 13 kills and four blocks. Libero Maddi Osburn led all players with 18 digs.

San José State continues its homestand this Saturday with a match against Air Force at 1 p.m. Admission is free to the match.
