San José, Calif.--The 2016 Spartan volleyball team kept the winning tradition alive on Alumni Day as San José State swept Air Force 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-14) in a Mountain West match Saturday afternoon at Spartan Gym.

On a day when the 2001 NCAA Tournament team was honored, the Spartans used seven service aces, 39 kills and seven blocks en route to the win. Thaliana Grajeda led all hitters as she hit a season-best .450 with 10 kills on 20 attempts and only one error. Thelma Grétarsdottir added nine kills and three blocks, while Nandyala Gama had a team-best four blocks and six kills.

Setter Breann Robinson recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 29 assists and 12 digs. Luiza Andrade served a season-best three service aces in the win.

The Spartans started the match by hitting .379 in the first set en route to the 25-17 win. The two teams battled back and forth to start as San José State took the lead at 11-10 on a Grajeda and Grétarsdottir block and never looked back.

In sets two and three, the Spartans took the lead from the first serve and kept pressing forward as the team won those sets 25-20 and 25-14.

San José State improves to 9-11 overall and 2-6 in the MW, while Air Force is now 9-12 overall and 0-8 in the conference. The Spartans continue their homestand next week with matches against conference-leader Colorado State on Thursday, October 20, at 6 p.m., and Wyoming next Saturday, October 22, at 1 p.m.
