San Jose, Calif. --- The scoring flood gates opened in the second half and the San Jose State women's soccer team defeated Colorado State 4-1 in Mountain West play at CEFCU Stadium.

Four goals for the Spartans (8-4-4, 5-2-1 MW) are the most in a conference match since a 4-0 win at Fresno State on October 31, 2014.

"It's a great result," said SJSU head coach Lauren Hanson. "It was a team effort and I think we're just playing fantastic soccer right now."

Freshman Carlie James entered into the match as a sub in the 62nd minute, and just two minutes later put the Spartans ahead 1-0. Darriell Franklin played the ball ahead to Yaritza Arista who found a cutting James inside the box for the score.

Dorthe Hoppius made it 2-0 SJSU lead when Alexis Venegas put the ball at her feet in stride. After a couple dribbles inside the top of the 18, Hoppius fired in her fifth goal of the season.

Colorado State's Madisann Relph put some pressure on the Spartans when she made it 2-1 in the 72nd minute. But Sabrina Miller busted the match wide open with two goals for SJSU in less than four minutes late in the second half.

In the 78th minute Alyssa Bertuleit hit Miller with a pass inside the box, and Miller turned on the defender into an open gap where she put the shot through for her second goal of the year.

Bertuleit was in on another helper to Miller in the 81st minute. The play started with Daria Manzano's corner kick in from the right side. Bertuleit got a foot on the ball which bounced straight over to Miller who popped it in to make it 4-1.

"Our movement was much better in the second half," Hanson said. "It was really fun to watch. I think everyone was involved and they created a lot of openings and gaps for us to score."

The win over Colorado State (3-11-2, 1-6-1 MW) gives San Jose State two wins in conference play this week and six point on the Mountain West table.

The Spartans take on Air Force on Friday, October 21 before returning home for Senior Day against Colorado College on Sunday, October 23.
