San Jose, Calif.- Nandyala Gama led San José State with eight kills, but the Spartan volleyball team was outblocked by Wyoming 15-3 in a 3-0 loss (25-15, 25-16, 25-20) to the Cowgirls Saturday afternoon in a Mountain West match at Spartan Gym.
Gama recorded her eight kills on 19 swings but had five hitting errors. The team's leading blocker, she was shut out on blocks for the match. Giulia Gávio had seven kills, while Thelma Grétarsdottir and Summer Avery each had five.
The Spartans had just three blocks in the match, led by Thaliana Grajeda who was a part of all three blocks. Grétarsdottir, Avery and Lousi combined with Grajeda for the blocks.
San José State (10-12, 3-7) hit just .026 for the match, compared to .268 for Wyoming (13-9, 6-3). The Cowgirls were led by Emily Lewis who had 13 kills and hit .346 (13-4-26).
San José State goes on the road next week to play at UNLV on Thursday, October 27, at 6 p.m., and at New Mexico on Saturday, October 29 at 12 p.m. MDT/11 a.m. PDT.
