My Leander Honored As MW Golfer Of The Month For September

Colorado, Springs, Colo.--After winning her first collegiate tournament and finishing second at her other tournament, San José State women's golfer My Leander has been honored by the Mountain West as the September Women's Golfer of the Month, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Leander went 142-1 against her opponents in September. She won her first collegiate title with a six-under 210 at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and followed that up with a second-place finish at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational with a two-under 214. Leander had a 70.67 stroke averaged for her six rounds played and five of her six rounds were par or better.

Leander also helped the Spartans to the team title at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and a second-place finish at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational. On the first day of the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, and also her birthday (Sept. 12), Leander went out and shot a four-under 68 and two-under 70, and was the leader in the clubhouse by two shots at six-under 138. She made eight birdies, 24 pars and an eagle (her third at SJSU) over the two rounds. She shot an even-par 72 in the final round and finished with a six-under 210, to win her first collegiate tournament. She made 5 birdies and 8 pars in the final round. She followed that up at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational by shooting 71-70-73 for a two-under 214, and finished two shots behind the winner.

Leander and the San José State women's golf team compete at the Stanford Intercollegiate, October 14-16, at the Stanford Golf Course. Admission is free to the event.
