Lousi, Gretarsdottir Lead Spartan Hitting Saturday

San Diego, Calif.- Latahevai Lousi and Thelma Grétarsdottir led the Spartans with eight kills each, but San Diego State hit .321 to defeat the San José State volleyball team 3-0 (28-26, 25-17, 25-21) Saturday afternoon at Aztec Court.

Grétarsdottir led the team in hitting at .333 with her 8 kills on 18 attempts and only two hitting errors. For the match, San José State hit .133 (31-19-90).

Luiza Andrade had a team-high 15 digs, while Breann Robinson had 28 assists and two digs.

The Spartan blocking attack recorded 9.5 blocks in the match and outblocked the Aztecs, 9.5-4.0. Thaliana Grajeda, Nandyala Gama and Robinson each had four blocks to led the team, and Summer Avery added three blocks.

San José State jumped out to an early 10-7 lead over San Diego State in set one, forcing the Aztecs to take a timeout. The Spartans expanded the lead to 14-11 before SDSU slowly chipped away at the deficit and took a 20-17 lead. Tied at 23-23, San José State had set points at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25 before the Aztecs won 28-26.

The Aztecs led the entire second set en route to a 25-17 win. The two teams battled in set three with the score tied at 19-19 before San Diego State scored six of the final eight points to win 25-21.

San José State returns home for four matches over the next two weeks at Spartan Gym - October 13 vs. Boise State (6 p.m.); 15 vs. Air Force (1 p.m.), 20 vs. Colorado State (6 p.m.) and 22 vs. Wyoming (1 p.m.). Admission is free to all Spartan home matches. Spartan volleyball alums will be recognized at the Air Force match.
