Culibrk Takes Home Singles Championship At SMC Invitational

MORAGA, Calif. - San José State women's tennis freshman Tamara Culibrk won the Flight B singles championship at the Saint Mary's College Fall Invitational by defeating Andie Mouzes of Sacramento State, 6-2, 6-4.

"Tamara served big during the big points," said San José State University women's tennis head coach Chad Skorupka. "She started strong and finished strong."


Culibrk also defeated Cal Poly's Abigail Bacharach, 6-1, 6-4, in the semifinals on her way to claiming her flight's title.

She has now won singles championships in her first two tournaments as a Spartan. She won her flight at the Gopher Invitational on September 25, 2016.

Two other Spartans competed in singles matches. Marine Dans defeated Sabrina Rodriguez of Pacific, 6-4, 6-1, in a consolation match. Miyo Kobayashi dropped her consolation match, 6-2, 6-2, to Danielle McIntyre of Saint Mary's.

Kobayashi and Culibrk teamed up to defeat Cal's Stephanie Lin and Audrey Mayer, 8-1, in a doubles consolation match.
