STANFORD, Calif. - The San José State men's water polo team came out strong in the first period but couldn't keep up with #5-Stanford and fell, 15-3, on a sunny day at the Avery Aquatics Center on the Stanford campus.

"We executed and did all the things we were trying to do," said SJSU head coach Bruce Watson. "They're a top ten team and we're playing at their place. This is the first time a lot of our guys have been to this complex."

The Spartans (2-10) held their own in the opening minutes of the match but once Stanford's Blake Parrish opened the scoring with 1:54 left in the first period in a man up situation, the Cardinal (11-2) went on a 4-0 scoring run from which the Spartans never recovered.

Freshman Finn Pardon led the Spartans with two goals and sophomore Zachary Scudder added one.

"Finn Pardon played outstanding for us today," said Watson. "He played really tough."

The Spartans head to Santa Barbara next weekend for three matches. They will take on #7-UC Santa Barbara on Friday, October 14, 2016. They play Whittier College and University of La Verne Saturday, October 15.
