Logan, Utah --- Right when it looked like the San Jose State women's soccer team was headed for another overtime, Utah State handed the Spartans a 2-1 loss with a game-winning goal in the 86th minute at Chuck & Gloria Bell Field.

Myia Wilkes had a streaking Rachelle Warner covered tightly until the two players got tangled up at the top of the box, and Wilkes was knocked to the ground. Jessica Brooksby was there to gather the lose ball and chipped in the game-winner.

"We played well and it's just unfortunate that it had to come down to one play that I thought should have ended differently," said Spartans' head coach Lauren Hanson.

Yaritsa Arista got the Spartans (6-4-4, 3-2-1 MW) out to another fast start with a goal in the sixth minute. Alexis Venegas got the ball to Arista in stride and after a couple of dribbles put a sliding shot passed the keeper for her second goal of the year.

Utah State (8-5-0, 5-1-0 MW) evened the score, 1-1, with a penalty kick by Brooksby in the 30th minute. Sabrina Miller was whistled when the Utah State player she was chasing went to the ground inside the box.

Brooksby finished the PK off with a low roller to the right of Spartans keeper Ana Calero.

The Spartans put two of their 10 shots on goal, while the Aggies put seven of 16 on target.

San Jose State returns home next week for conference matches against Wyoming on Friday, October 14, and Colorado State on Sunday, October 16.
