Nov. 1, 2016

Final Stats

San Jose, Calif. --- Five different Spartans finished in double-figure scoring and the San José State men's basketball team ran away with a 101-64 victory over Pacific Union College in an exhibition game inside the Event Center.

"The biggest thing I wanted to get out of this was I wanted to play everyone, and have nobody get hurt," said Spartans' head coach Dave Wojcik. "That's what we did and we came away with a win. As coaches we feel pretty good about that."

All 14 Spartans got in the book with points, led by Brandon Clarke, Terrell Brown and Jaycee Hillsman who all scored 13. Clarke caught a handful of lobs and threw them down for emphatic dunks in front of a packed student-section in the first half.

"I thought we came out a little slow of foot or nervouse," Wojcik said. "But Brandon Clarke really got us going there."

Isaiah Nichols got the start in his Spartan debut and made the most of it with 12 points, six rebounds and five assists. His 3-pointer and layup with under four minutes to go in the first half put SJSU up by 14.

"I dont' think Isaiah played like a freshman," said Wojcik. He played like a cagey veteran, and were going to need that from him."

Jalen James scored all 11 of his points in the second half, and his layup at the 9:16 mark in the second half put San José State up 68-44.

The Spartans cleaned up a tough shooting first half by going 20-of-32 from the floor in the final 20 minutes. The Spartans had 11 steals and nine blocked shots. They forced 22 turnovers on the Pioneers.

LeRoy Anderson led Pacific Union College in scoring with 17.

San José State plays its final exhibition game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (PT) against Cal State East Bay.
