Spartan Baseball Announces 2017 Schedule

Nov. 14, 2016

2017 SCHEDULE

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State baseball team released its 2017 schedule featuring games against three teams that qualified for the 2016 NCAA Baseball tournament. Spartans first year head coach Jason Hawkins made the announcement.

Among the 57 regular-season games, 26 will be played at home in Municipal Stadium and 31 on the road. The Spartans will play nine games against three teams, Saint Mary's, Cal State Fullerton and New Mexico, that competed in post-season competition one season ago.

SJSU opens its season on the road against Pac-12 foe, UCLA, on February 17 for a three-game series.

The 2017 home campaign gets underway when Northern Colorado and BYU come to San Jose for a three team round-robin format, February 23-25, with each team playing four games. Big Ten Conference's Michigan then visits for the second year in a row for one game on February 27.

The Spartans continue their eight game home stand when they open Mountain West conference play against UNLV for a three game series starting March 3, before closing out the home stand against Pacific on March 7.

San José State plays 13 of its next 17 games on the road, travelling to New Mexico (March 10-12), Cal State Fullerton (March 14), Pacific (March 21), Hawaii (March 23-26), San Diego State (March 31-April 2) and finishing up against Santa Clara (April 4). The four home games during the stretch include a weekend series against Nevada (March 17-19) and Santa Clara (March 29).

The Spartans will face Mountain West opponents in seven of its final eight weekends beginning with a trip to San Diego State, March 31-April 2. SJSU also plays New Mexico (April 7-9/Home), Nevada (April 13-15/Away), Air Force (April 21-23/Home), Fresno State (April 28-30/Away), San Diego State (May 5-7/Home) and UNLV (May 18-20/Away).

Due to the unbalanced schedule with the Mountain West having seven schools with baseball programs, the Spartans play Air Force and defending regular season conference champion Fresno State only one series each.

The Spartans play five local teams in home-and-home series - Santa Clara, Pacific, Stanford, Saint Mary's and the University of San Francisco, playing against USF a total of four games. All of them, with the exception of the USF games, are mid-week games scattered throughout the season.

Other non-conference series include a two-game road trip to Grand Canyon University, May 9-10.

The Mountain West regular season champion will host the 2017 Conference Championship from May 24-28 with only the top-four teams from the conference standings. The winner of the conference tournament will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Regionals.
