SAN JOSE, Calif. - Enrique Montano, a former holding midfielder for the San José State men's soccer team from 2012-14, agreed to a contract with Sacramento Republic FC of the United Soccer League. Sacramento Republic FC made the announcement.
Montano joins Sacramento Republic FC after playing his first two seasons with another USL club, Louisville City FC. In 32 matches, he played 2,433 minutes and recorded six assists, the third-most of any Louisville City FC player during that period.
The Salinas, Calif. native returns to California where as a Spartan, he started 51 games in 53 appearances. In three seasons he scored two goals and assisted three more.
In his first season with the SJSU program in 2012, Montano was honored with the Coaches' Award, given annually to those exemplifying excellence on the pitch, off the pitch and in the community.
In 2014, Montano was named the team Defensive MVP.
The USL offers the highest level of competition under Major League Soccer. With 29 teams in 19 American states and three Canadian provinces, the USL is the largest professional soccer league in the United State and Canada, and the world.
The 2017 USL season kicks off next spring.
