Nov. 16, 2016

2017 Schedule

San Jose, Calif. - San José State head softball coach Peter Turner announced his team's 2017 schedule on Wednesday, which features 11 games against teams that participated in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

"I think we put together a competitive schedule," head coach Peter Turner said. "We're going to a couple of tournaments that we seem to be at every year (Kajikawa Classic and San Diego Classic II), but we're also going to a couple of new tournaments as well.

"We're going to jump right into it that first weekend with back-to-back games against Oregon and Utah and in San Diego we are playing several teams that were in the (NCAA) Tournament last year. So, this schedule will challenge us."

The Spartans open the year with a trip to Tempe, Ariz., February 9-11, for the Kajikawa Classic featuring the aforementioned NCAA Tournament teams Oregon and Utah, as well as Creighton, Western Michigan, Virginia and UC Riverside.

The following weekend San José State will be at the DiMarini Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., from February 17-19. They will face BYU, an NCAA Tournament Team in 2016, as well as Hawai'i, Southern Utah, Iowa State and UTEP.

The Spartans will make a quick trip to Stockton to play a single game against Pacific on February 21, before returning to the state of Arizona, February 23-25. They play a pair of games at Grand Canyon, which is hosting the CGU Invitational. San José State will also play two games against Portland State and a single game versus Rhode Island.

For the remainder of its non-conference schedule, SJSU won't have to leave California.

The team is in San Diego, March 3-5 to play in the San Diego Classic II. In four games, all contested at San Diego State, the Spartans will face three Tournament teams from last year, McNeese State, Boston University and Miami (Ohio) as well as Detroit. They then travel west on I-8 to play a final game at University of San Diego.

Non-conference tournament play wraps the weekend of March 9-11. San José State is in Davis to participate in the UC Davis Tournament. They will play a pair against host UC Davis as well as single games against Seton Hall, UMass and Iowa State.

With no on-campus facility for San José State to compete in, the team will play its first conference home series at the University of the Pacific's Bill Simoni Field March 17-19 against Nevada.

The remainder of the Spartans' home games will be played at Santa Clara University's SCU Softball Stadium, beginning with a doubleheader against Princeton on March 23. SJSU then travels to Los Angeles to play its final non-conference game at Loyola Marymount on March 29.

Getting back to Mountain West play, San José State travels to San Diego State for a three-game set from March 31 to April 2.

SJSU will be home for its next two series, starting with Colorado State (April 7-9) and then Boise State (April 13-15). Following those series, road trips to Fresno State (April 21-23) and New Mexico (April 28-30) are on the schedule.

The last home series will be May 5-7 against Utah State and the season wraps at UNLV, May 11-13.

The 64 teams that will participate in the 2017 NCAA Softball Tournament will be announced on May 14 and play in the Regionals start on May 19.
