Complete 2nd Day Results

Monterey Park, Calif.----- NCAA Championship "B Cut" performances and second-place finishes by Brenna Bushey in the 100 fly and Colleen Humel in the 100 back were just two of the San Jose State University women's swimming highlights on the second day of the A3 Performance Invitational.

Bushey posted a season-best time of 53.84 in the 100 fly and Humel, 54.46 in the 100 back for their provisional NCAA Championship qualifying marks. The "B Cut" standard in the 100 back is 55.09 and 54.49 in the 100 fly.

Humel and the Spartans opened the evening session with their third fifth-place finish in a relay race -- the 200 medley relay. She powered her way to a career best 25.41 backstroke split to move into #3 on the San Jose State all-time list. Her previous best was 25.74 at the 2016 Mountain West Championships.

She followed her relay split with a fourth-place finish in the 200 free at 1:50.61 before touching the wall second in the 100 back. Humel closed out her busy day leading off San Jose State's fifth-place finishing 800 free relay.

Co-captain Taylor Solorio picked up her second eighth place finish of the meet with a 1:04.29 in the 100 breast. She was eighth in 50 free on the first night of the meet.

Marley Maluafiti rounded out the Spartans to swim in a championship final with her eighth-place finish in the 100 fly at 56.35.

San Jose State cemented its hold on fifth place in the 10-team standings. The Spartans added 280 points on day two for a 460.5-point total. UCLA is the team leader at 909.5. San Diego State at 779.5, UC Santa Barbara at 671 and Hawaii at 596 remain ahead of San Jose State.

"We had a tremendous team effort in the prelims and an overall strong finals session," said San Jose State head coach Sage Hopkins, who also pointed to Allyson Fellows' swim in the 400 individual medley at 4:30.01 to move into #9 on the Spartans' top-10 career list as another highlight of the day. Fellows finished 19th in the event.

The three-day meet concludes on November 19 with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and the 400 free relay.

San Jose State divers Megan Au, Kylie Fonseca, Natasha Sondeno and Eri Tamada competed in the Lumberjack Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University. Due to a scoring system malfunction, results for the 1-meter and platform events are not expected to be available until November 19.
