Andrade Enters Top-10 Season Digs List On Saturday

Logan, Utah- Luiza Andrade moved into the top-10 San José State season dig leaders on Saturday as the Spartan volleyball fell at Utah State 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 26-24) in a Mountain West match.

Andrade led the team with 10 digs and now has 420 for the season. She jumped into the SJSU season list in a tied for eighth place by passing Kristal Tsukano (415 in 2007) and Yavianliz Rosado (416 in 2015). Andrade is tied with Carrie Nash who had 420 digs in 2004. Andrade needs five digs for seventh place and nine for sixth place.

Giulia Gávio and Latahevai Lousi led the Spartan hitting attack. Gávio had nine kills on 24 attempts and added three digs and two blocks. Lousi also had nine kills, hit .304 for the match and recorded three digs.

Thaliana Grajeda led the team in blocks with five, followed by Thelma Gretársdottir with four and Nandyala Gam at three. Gama hit .444 for the match with eight kills on 18 attempts and no errors. The Spartans finished the match by outblocking the Aggies 8-5.

After starting the match by hitting .023 in the first set, the Spartans responded in sets two and three by hitting .321 (13-4-28) and .303 (15-5-33) respectively. The Spartans fought back in the third set, down 24-20, to tie the match at 24-24, before Utah State got a kill and a Spartan hitting error to win the match.

San José State is now 12-17 overall and 5-12 in the MW. The team plays the final match of the 2016 season this Tuesday as the Spartans host Fresno State. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets. Admission is free.
