NSCAA All-Pacific Region Teams
Kansas City, Mo. --- For the second straight year, the San José State women's soccer team has two National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Pacific Region honorees. Leader goal scorer Dorthe Hoppius and freshman defender Kristen Amarikwa share second-team honors for the 2016 women's soccer season.
"This is a great step for our conference to have several players selected among the Pacific Region's elite," said Spartans' head coach Lauren Hanson. "It also says a lot about our program that some of the top coaches in the region selected two of our players for this honor."
Hoppius and Amarikwa join UNLV's Chidera Akubuilo and Lily Sender and San Diego State's Victoria Barba and Stacie Moran in the group of Mountain West players voted All-Pacific Region.
Hoppius scored nine goals to lead the Spartans and her 21 points were also tops on the team. The junior from Dorsten, Germany was selected to the All-Mountain West Second Team again in 2016, and now she has repeated the second-team honor from the NSCAA.
Amarikwa is one of only four freshman to be voted All-Pacific Region, which is comprised of 35 teams representing the Pac-12, Mountain West and Big Sky conferences.
Amarikwa started every match in 2016 and was a big part of San José State's league-leading 0.91 goals against average. The Bakersfield, Calif., native was a staple in the backline which had seven shutouts in 2016.
