Tough Day For Women's Tennis At Bronco Invitational

Nov. 4, 2016

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San José State women's tennis had a tough time on the courts on the first day of the Bronco Invitational at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif.

"We were flat today and the results speak for themselves," said SJSU head coach Chad Skorupka.

The Spartans lost all four singles matches and split doubles matches to kick off their last tournament of the fall.

Senior Marine Dans and sophomore Miyo Kobayashi defeated Adriana Gergelyova and Carlijn Ketting of Nevada, 8-2, for San José State's only win on the day.

In the Spartans' other doubles match, senior Gaelle Rey and freshman Tamara Culibrk took on #43-ranked doubles team Blaga Delic and Sheila Morales of Nevada and fell, 8-3.

In singles action, the Spartans couldn't conjure up a win in four matches, all against players from Saint Mary's, on Friday, November 4.

Culibrk fell to Jacqueline Pelletier 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, Rey was defeated by Kareena Manji, 6-3, 6-1, Kobayashi lost 6-2, 7-6 (8) to Parminder Kaur and Dans couldn't keep up with Danielle McIntyre, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-1.

The Spartans look to rebound tomorrow when they take the court in Santa Clara again.

"We need to play more aggressive and believe in ourselves tomorrow," said Skorupka.

San José State takes on Santa Clara in doubles and Nevada in singles tomorrow, Saturday, November 5.

Draws and results can be found on the Bronco Invitational website.
