Men's cross country runner Jose Piña and women's soccer player Dorthe Hoppius are the Spartan Foundation October Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by O'Connor Hospital.Piña earned second-team All-Mountain West honors after an 11th-place finish at the conference championship. The sophomore led San José State to two wins during October at the Bronco Invitational and Santa Clara duel. He ran his first sub-24 minute 8K race while leading the team to the pair of victories.Hoppius made the All-MW First Team for the second year in a row after an outstanding October when she scored six goals. The junior netted the game-winning tally against Wyoming, which was part of a four-game win streak for the Spartans. Two assists brought her point total for the month to a team-leading 14. Hoppius is currently back home in Germany training for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
