Ramos Goes For 34 & Hits Overtime Game-Winner For Spartans

San Jose, Calif. - Guard Dezz Ramos hit a 15-foot jumper from just to the left of the free throw line with 0.5 seconds remaining in overtime giving the San Jose State women's basketball team an 81-80 victory over San Diego State in a Mountain West action on Wednesday night.

Ramos led all scorers with 34 points and set a Mountain West single-season record with her fifth 30-plus point game of the season and her third in the last four games. The West Valley, Utah native scored her team's last seven points. She sank a turnaround jumper from the right side with 49.3 seconds to go giving the Spartans a 77-76 lead, two free throws to extend the advantage to 79-76 and the game-winning basket.

Jasmine Smith with 14 points and a team-high 12 rebounds and Myzhanique Ladd and Rachol West each with 10 points also scored in double-figures for San Jose State (5-11, 2-2 Mountain West). It was Smith's fifth double double in as many games and her sixth of the season.

SDSU's McKynzie Fort matched her career high of 29 points, passed the 1,000-point career mark and collected 11 rebounds in the loss. Geena Gomez added a career-high 20 for the Aztecs (7-8, 2-2 Mountain West).

The Spartans scored the first 12 points of the game and led by as many as 15, 18-3, in the first quarter and had a 34-26 halftime lead. San Diego State took its first lead of the game, 45-44, on a Gomez 3-point basket with 3:20 left in the third quarter.

The Aztecs had two eight-point leads in the fourth quarter including, 69-61 with 3:15 remaining. A Ramos 3-point play and Ladd scoring nine of her 10 points in the fourth quarter ignited the Spartans' comeback. Ladd's third three-point basket of the game gave the Spartans a 71-69 lead, but a Fort field goal with 54.2 to go were the final points at the end of regulation.

Fort had a chance to win the game for the Aztecs, but San Jose State's Paris Baird blocked her jumper from the free throw line to send the game into overtime at 71-71.

SJSU ended a two-game losing streak with the win and halted San Diego State's two-game winning streak.

The Spartans are back in action, Saturday, January 14, hosting Air Force at 2:00 p.m.
