SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State men's soccer players Jonathan Colunga, Rory Knibbs, Kyle O'Mahoney and Jonathan Partida have been named Academic All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) honorees for the 2016 fall sports season. The conference made the announcement on January 12.
To be recognized, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
Colunga, a senior midfielder, has a 3.49 grade point average (GPA). Majoring in Spanish with a minor in business administration, Colunga earned the Academic All-Conference honors for the second time.
The Lindsay, Calif., native was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's All-West Region third-team this season. He was also named to the All-WAC team for the third time.
Knibbs, a senior forward from London, England, has a 3.21 GPA to earn his second Academic All-Conference honors. Majoring in communication studies, the three-time All-WAC selection finished his Spartan career tied for first in career goals scored in WAC matches with 19.
O'Mahoney, a senior from Hednesford, England, has a 3.27 GPA to also earn his second Academic All-Conference honors. The four-year letter winner majoring in communication studies, started in 66 matches during his career.
Majoring in hospitality management, Partida boasts a 3.67 GPA. It was the first such honor for the sophomore from Newark, Calif. Partida was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 24 during the 2016 season.
A total of 248 student-athletes were named Academic All-WAC.
