Sacramento, Calif.-- Taylor Chan won her first collegiate event and two others finished second on three other events for the San José State women's gymnastics team as the Spartans scored a 192.725 in a meet at Sacramento State Friday night. The Hornets won the meet with a 194.400 team score.
Chan tied for first on vault with a season-best 9.775, and tied for second floor with a 9.825. Kaitlin Won was second on the beam with a 9.825, tied for second on floor at 9.825 and third in the all-around at 38.575. Rachel Heinl tied for second on the bars with a 9.800.
The Spartans started the night on bars with a 48.150. After Heinl's 9.800, Kaprece Nadonza and Kendal Watts each had a 9.725, Haleigh Shepard at 9.700, Won at 9.200 and Stephanie Relova at 9.050.
Rotating to the vault, San José State scored a 48.550, led by Chan's 9.775. Erica Matos received a 9.750, followed by Won at 9.725, Heinl and Josalyn Ray at 9.650 and Watts at 9.200.
The floor team posted the team's highest score of the night with a 48.575. Won and Chan each scored a 9.825, then Ellie Pascoe-Long at 9.675, Matos at 9.650, Ray at 9.475, and Chelsey Andrada at 9.600.
For the second consecutive meet, the Spartans finished on the beam and had a 47.450. Won tied her career high with a 9.825, and Andrada added a season-high 9.750. Ray received a 9.475, while Madison Loomis made her Spartan debut with a 9.425. Chan scored an 8.975, while Alisa Bogdan rounded out the scoring with an 8.150.
San José State next competes on Saturday, January 21, in Berkeley against California and Washington. The meet begins at 5 p.m., and will be shown on the Pac-12 Network.
