Final Stats

San Jose, Calif. --- Brandon Clarke scored a game-high 26 points, but it was a wire-to-wire 75-65 win for Boise State over the San José State men's basketball team in Mountain West play inside The Event Center.

Boise State made just one field goal in the final 12:29, but managed to hold onto a double-digit lead until Jaycee Hillsman hit a pair of free throws with 2:10 left to make it 67-59. Hillsman hit a shot on the next SJSU possession to make it a 6-point game, but that would be all. David Wacker scored a team-leading 17 points and his slam dunk with 19 seconds left ended up being that lone basket for the Broncos.

Clarke put together another efficient offensive display that Spartan fans are becoming accustomed to seeing. He scored 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field. It is his 10th consecutive game shooting above 50 percent.

On the defensive end the Spartans were unable to stop the Broncos (12-6, 5-2 MW) who got out to a 7-0 lead and hit all five of their threes in the first half. Clarke hit his first eight field goal attempts to begin the game. But Boise State continued to answer Clarke's baskets with threes - knocking down all five for the game in the first 20 minutes.

First Clarke hit a couple of jumpers and then a one-handed transition slam brought the Spartans within three, 11-8, at the 14:29 mark.

If it wasn't a 3-ball it was one of Boise State's 10 layups in the opening period which helped put the Spartans down double-digits. SJSU went into the break down 43-30.

Some tough sequences prohibited San José State from climbing back into the game despite Boise State's second half field goal drought. Trailing by 10 with 11:50 remaining in the game, the Spartans missed three layups, a 3-pointer and turned the ball over twice all in a span of 3:05. Meanwhile the Broncos extended their lead to 14 using free throws.

While Boise State didn't make a three in the second half, neither did the Spartans. SJSU finished a season-low 1-for-13 from beyond the arc.

Hillsman was a spark off the bench for the Spartans who scored all 14 of his points in the final 20 minutes. Ryan Welage finished in double-figure scoring also with 14 points.

Chandler Hutchison scored 15 points, Paris Austin scored 11 points and James Reid put in 10 point to round out the double-figure scorers for Boise State.

The Spartans go back out on the road to begin next week with a game at Colorado State on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. (MT).
