Reno, Nev.----- Taylor Solorio and Colleen Humel each won an individual event and swam on San Jose State University's victorious 400-yard freestyle relay team, but the University of Nevada came up with a 179-118 women's swimming and diving dual meet win.
San Jose State (4-2) had six first-place finishes in the 16-event meet.
"We had a decent day. For as long as I've been here, swimming at Reno has been a challenge. We had a number of good performances and we have had a strong season thus far," said San Jose State women's swimming and diving coach Sage Hopkins about facing the undefeated Nevada team (5-0).
Solorio won the 50 free in 24.24 to remain unbeaten in the event in dual meet competition this season. Humel captured the 200 back in 2:03.30. Solorio led off and Humel anchored the winning 400 free relay team with Gabby Heng and Kimberlee Giggey in between in 3:31.29.
Allyson Fellows in the 1,000 free, Jenner Johnson in the 200 breast and Brenna Bushey in the 100 fly also picked up wins for San Jose State. Bushey won a 100 fly for the second meet in a row and Fellows finished first in a freestyle distance race for the second time in eight days.
The Spartans conclude their dual meet season, Saturday, January 28 at Fresno State.
"We are looking forward to our meet with Fresno State. It's a chance to continue a great rivalry and honor our four seniors (Lisa Ellis, Allyson Fellows, Jenner Johnson and Taylor Solorio)."
