La Jolla, Calif. ----- The San José State University women's swimming and diving team finished third out of six teams at the UCSD Invitational.
The Spartans scored 327.5 points. San Diego State was first with 462 points. Boise State edged San Jose State for second place with 354. Host UC San Diego was fourth with 230. Incarnate Word with 125 and Air Force with 95.5 rounded out the team scoring.
Spartans head coach Sage Hopkins said, "I'm very pleased with our performance today. This was a great opportunity to swim against the two top teams in our conference (Boise and SDSU), along with Air Force who has placed ahead of us at the past three conference championships."
Diver Cari Reiswig was San Jose State's one individual event winner in the meet that had eight swimming and two diving events. Reiswig was first in the 3 meter dive with a season-best score of 320.60. She also was sixth in the 1-meter dive with a 261.40 point total.
Teammate Kylie Fonseca had another strong day with a second in the 1-meter dive with her 247.10 score and a fourth in the 3-meter at 271.70.
Colleen Humel, Taylor Solorio, Brenna Bushey and Jenner Johnson also turned in top-five finishes. Humel was second in the 100 back with a time of 57.61; Solorio, third in the 100 free at 52.65; Bushey, fourth in the 100 fly with a time of 57.20; and Johnson, fifth place in the 100 breast at 1:06.62.
The Spartans conclude their five-day road trip at UC San Diego's Canyonview Pool on Tuesday, January 3, with dual meets against San Diego State, Rice and UC San Diego. The quadruple dual meet begins at 12:00 p.m. (PT).
"I'm excited to get back at it tomorrow," said Hopkins.
