San Jose, Calif.-San José State women's gymnast Taylor Chan has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Gymnastics Freshman of the Week for her performances last week at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas. This is her second honor this season.
At the four-team meet, Chan won her second event title of the season as she won the floor with a season-best 9.850. She is not the MPSF's top performer on floor with a 9.825 average. Chan was also part of the floor team that scored a 49.050, tying for the 14th-best floor score in school history.
On the vault, Chan added a team-best 9.775 and was part of the vault team that scored a season-best 48.750 and tied for the 13th-highest score in school history. Chan also competed on beam with a 9.175.
From Coquitlam, British Columbia, Chan joined the Spartan team this season after competing for TAG Sports Center. She was named the 2016 Sandra Hartley National Stream Athlete of the Year from Gymnastics BC.
San José State hosts UC Davis this Friday night, February 3, at The Event Center. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for warm-ups, and the teams will march out beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door - adults $7, youth 12-and-under $5, and youth in gymnastics gear that night $3.
