Clarke & Smith Are December Student-Athletes Of The Month

Jan. 5, 2017 Men's basketball sophomore forward Brandon Clarke and women's basketball senior forward Jasmine Smith are the Spartan Foundation December student-athletes of the month, presented by O'Conner Hospital.Clarke led San José State averaging 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds in six December games. He hit the game-winning tip-in with 1.2 seconds remaining in the 77-76 win over Bowling Green. Clarke finished that contest with his fourth double-double of the year including 24 points and 14 rebounds in just 27 minutes of action. The 6-foot-8 forward was named the Mountain West's Player of the Week for games played Dec. 12-18. He finished the month shooting 58.6 percent from the field.

Smith became the 15th player in program history to surpass 1,000-career points when she dropped 18 in the win versus Nevada to open MW play. The senior forward averaged 13.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.7 steals in six December games. Smith recorded back-to-back double-doubles including her single-game career high with 25 points in a win over Stanislaus State. She finished the month shooting a team-best 52.3 percent from the field.
