San Luis Obispo, Calif.----- San Jose State University completed a quick two-match weekend road trip with a 4-0 non-conference women's tennis win over Cal Poly.
The Spartans (2-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in doubles with the pairs Sybille Gauvain and Marie Klocker and Marine Dans and Gaelle Rey posting victories.
San Jose State put away the match with straight-set singles wins by Gauvain at #1, ranked #96-nationally, Rey at #5 and Miyo Kobayashi at #6. When the Spartans clinched the match, they had won nine singles sets and trailed in only one set of the three unfinished matches.
"The high energy from yesterday's match (at UC Santa Barbara) which was great carried over today," said San Jose State head coach Chad Skorupka. "We look forward to playing NCAA champions Stanford on Tuesday."
Weather-permitting, the Spartans have a busy week ahead of them. San Jose State and #4-ranked Stanford are playing their first dual match against each other in the 21st century. First serve is at 1:30 p.m.
The Spartans close out the week hosting Academy of Art at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club in San Jose on February 17 at noon and have an 11:00 a.m. make-up match with Santa Clara on February 18. Originally, San Jose State and Santa Clara were scheduled to play on February 3.
