College Station, Texas ----- Two top-10 San Jose State University all-time best swims in the 200 medley and 800 free relays, respectively, were highlights on the first day of the Mountain West Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Spartans are in sixth place out of 10 schools with 110 points. Boise State is first with 200 followed closely by Nevada with 198.

Coach Sage Hopkins said, "I'm very happy with today's performances. The 200 medley relay time was the fastest we've had in three years." The team of Colleen Humel, Taylor Solorio, Brenna Bushey and Gabby Heng finished sixth with a time of 1:40.07 -- #3 on the San Jose State all-time list.

"We also had three lifetime best (individual) finishes in both the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay."

The 800 free relay team of Humel, Taylor Lehr, Kate Hanf and Gabby Heng finished ninth with a time of 7:24.99, good for #6 on the Spartans' all-time list.

"I was very proud of our two freshmen (Hanf and Heng). They did very well in a role they had never had to be in before," said Hopkins.
