College Station, Texas----- San Jose State University's Cari Reiswig fourth-place finish in platform diving and Colleen Humel's second fifth-place finish in a backstroke event highlighted San Jose State University's final day of the 2017 Mountain West Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Reiswig posted a career-best score of 246.45, #2 on the Spartans' top-10 list. She became the first Spartan diver in four years to place in the top-eight in all three diving events at a conference championship meet. Resiwig was began the Mountain West Championships eighth in the 1-meter and was fifth in the 3-meter. The junior from Galt, Calif., has seven top-eight finishes in three Mountain West Championships.
Reiswig led a strong diving contingent on the platform. Natasha Sondeno, Kyle Fonseca and Eri Tamada all had lifetime best scores. Sondeno's 214.80 was good for 20th place and now #4 on the San Jose State top-10 list. Fonseca's 29th-place score of 193.20 is #6 for the Spartans. Tamada's 174.65, #8 at San Jose State.
"The highlights of today would be would be Cari Reiswig's performance on platform and Colleen Humel's 200 backstroke performance," said San Jose State head coach Sage Hopkins, whose team finished ninth with 496.5 points out of the 10 teams entered. Boise State led from start to finish and ended up with 1,139 points. San Diego State at 1,139 and Nevada with 1,089.5 rounded out the top three teams.
Humel swam a lifetime best 1:56.10 in the 200 back for her fifth-place finish. Her previous career best was 1:56.88 which she swam in a morning preliminary heat to qualify for the championship final.
Seniors Lisa Ellis in the 200 back and Allyson Fellows in the 1,650 free closed out their college careers with performances that now are in the school's top-10 list. Ellis' 2:01.87 time in a preliminary heat is #7 on the Spartans' top-10 list and placed her 29th in the conference meet.
Fellows had a 1,000-yard split time of 10:20.16 and 17:05.62 in the 1,650 for a 13th place finish. Both times are #6 on the Spartans' top-10 list. On the third night of the championships, she posted the #7 best SJSU mark in the 400 individual medley.
In the 100 free, Katie McIntee, Victoria Fountain, Violani Auva'a, Kate Hanf, Kimberlee Giggey, Gabby Heng, Taylor Lehr, Antoinette Loya, and Humel all had career best times. Lehr was the top finisher placing 20th at 51.12.
Freshman Jenna Lloyd's 2:19.99 in the 200 breast placed her 21st in the meet good and #10 on the Spartans' top-ten list.
The 400 free relay team of Taylor Solorio, Lehr, Giggey and Humel closed out the meet with a 3:23.54 time, #7 on the San Jose State top-10 list and seventh place in the meet. All five Spartan relay teams swam a top-10 best mark during the four days of the championships.
