Women's Gymnastics Posts Another Strong Score In Win At Air Force

Colorado Springs, Colo.--The San José State women's gymnastics team posted another strong score Saturday night as three Spartans won individual event titles in a 194.950-193.225 win at Air Force.

The Spartans posted their second-highest team score of the season, following up last week's 195.200 at home.

Winning individual event titles were Kaitlin Won on bars with a career-best 9.875, Chelsey Andrada with a season-best 9.825 on beam (her first collegiate event title), and Taylor Chan as she tied her career best with a 9.875 on floor. Won also took home the all-around title with a 38.950.

The bars team started the meet strong for the Spartans with a 48.600, and taking the top-four places, led by Won's career-best 9.875. Stephanie Relova was second with a 9.775, followed by Erica Matos in third with a 9.725 as she made her collegiate debut on bars, and Rachel Heinl in fourth at 9.700. Haleigh Shepard added a 9.575, and Kaprece Nadonza had an 8.450.

The vault team continued the strong showing with a 48.625. Shepard and Nadonza led the way for San José State as each scored a career-best 9.750 to tie for second place Won followed closely behind at 9.725, while Taylor Chan and Matos each had a 9.700. Heinl rounded out the scoring with a 9.575.

Up next on floor, the Spartans scored a 48.700, as Chan won the event for the third time this season with a 9.875. Ellie Pascoe-Long was third at 9.825, followed by Andrada and Matos at 9.725, and Won and Madison Loomis at 9.550.

The Spartan beam scored the highest team score of the night for the second consecutive meet with a 48.975, tying for the sixth-best beam score in school history. Andrada won her first collegiate event title with a career-best 9.825. Alisa Bogdan, Won and Chan tied for third place at 9.800, while Relova received a 9.750, and Michelle Shalit had a 9.625.

Next week, San José State travels up Interstate 80 to UC Davis for a quadrangular meet with the Aggies, Sacramento State and Seattle Pacific on Friday, February 24, beginning at 7 p.m.
