Colorado Springs, Colo.----- San Jose State University women's swimmers Brenna Bushey and Colleen Humel and diver Cari Reiswig were named to the 2017 Mountain West all-conference team for their performance at the recently completed conference championships meet.
The three Spartans finished in the top eight in their respective events to earn six combined all-conference honors.
"Brenna, Colleen and Cari have been outstanding from day one of their freshman year. At last week's Mountain West Championships, they were our top three point scorers," says San Jose State women's swimming and diving head coach Sage Hopkins.
Reiswig became the first San Jose State diver to earn All-Mountain West honors in each of the diving events in the same championship since the Spartans joined the conference in July 2013. She was eighth in the 1-meter, fifth in the 3-meter and set a school record with her fourth-place in the platform last week at 2017 championships.
The junior from Galt, Calif., now has seven All-Mountain West all-conference honors. She returned to San Jose with all-conference honors in the 1 and 3-meter dives her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Reiswig's season continues at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz., March 6-8. Qualifiers from the zone championships advance to the NCAA Championships, March 15-18, in Indianapolis, Ind.
"Cari has solidified her spot as the diver in school history and I am looking forward to her performance in the first stage of the NCAA Championships in two weeks," Hopkins adds about Reiswig's remainder of the season.
Humel was fifth in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. She had a personal best of 1:56.88 in the 200 final. The Chicopee, Mass., native was an all-conference swimmer in the 100 back as a sophomore in 2016 and 200 back as a freshman in 2015.
Bushey, from Littleton, Colo., is an all-conference swimmer in the 100 butterfly for the second consecutive year. She was sixth in this year's meet and fifth a year ago.
"I'd also like to point out that Cari, Colleen and Brenna are also three of our top performers academically. It's no coincidence that they are achieving such multifaceted success. The hard work and the focus they exhibit both in the pool and the classroom epitomize the term, `student-athlete,'" concludes the Spartans' head coach about San José State's three all-conference student-athletes.
