For the San Jose State University women's tennis team, it expects to finally play its home opener, Thursday, February 23, against the University of San Francisco (USF) in a 1:00 p.m. match at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club in San Jose.
Originally scheduled for February 4, rain and wind forced postponement of this match and a second possible home opener against the Academy of Art University on February 17.
The Spartans (2-3) last played on February 14 in a 7-0 loss to #4-ranked Stanford.
The USF match is the first of three matches in four days. San Jose State is scheduled to play CSUN (2-4), Saturday, February 25 in a 10:00 a.m. dual match. The next day, the Spartans take on UC Irvine (1-7) in a non-conference contest that starts at 11:00 a.m.
San Jose State is likely to have junior Sybille Gauvain play in the number-one singles role. Gauvain is ranked 56th nationally in the February 21 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings. Her rank is the highest for a Spartan women's tennis player since the 2013 season. She has an 11-6 win-loss record in singles and is tied for the team lead in singles victories this season.
Gauvain and doubles partner Marie Klocker take a three-match winning streak into the USF dual match. They have a 7-5 win-loss record including a win against UC Santa Barbara's nationally-ranked doubles pair of Stefani Stojic and Palina Dubavets, ranked #52 at the time of the match.
