Northridge, Calif.----- Nationally-ranked Sybille Gauvain, Tamara Culibrk and Miyo Kobayashi won straight-sets singles matches leading San Jose State University to a 4-1 non-conference women's tennis win over CSUN (Cal State Northridge).
Gauvain, ranked #56 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, defeated Kiryang Kim, 6-2, 6-2 for her second singles win in the last three days giving San Jose State.
"I was able to put more of my first serves (in play)," Gauvain said about her singles win.
Kobayashi's 6-4, 6-3 win over Kristen Poel at #6-singles clinched the match for San Jose State (4-3).
The Spartans earned their first two-match winning streak of the season taking the doubles point. Gauvain and Marie Klocker dispatched CSUN's Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poel, 6-3 at #1 doubles, and Marine Dans and Gaelle Rey topped Kim and Vivian Lin, 6-2 at #2 doubles.
"Getting the doubles point was huge," said San Jose State women's tennis head coach Chad Skorupka. "It was a tight match. We were losing at #2 and #3 singles."
The Spartans conclude their weekend road trip with a non-conference dual match at UC Irvine on February 26. It will be San Jose State's third match in four days.
