Seal Beach, Calif.-For the second time this season, the San José State women's golf team won a tournament by double-digits as the Spartans claimed the team title at The Gold Rush presented by Tantalum Tuesday afternoon at the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif.

The Spartans entered the final round Tuesday at even-par 576 after completing the second round Tuesday morning. The team finished the final round with a five-over 293 to end the tournament at 869, and defeated #31 Brigham Young by 11 shots. SJSU's other win this season came in the first tournament of the year as the team won the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic by 14 shots over UC Irvine.

San José State made 15 birdies in the final round and led The Gold Rush with 40 birdies made over the three rounds.

Individually, My Leander shot a three-under 69 in each round and was second at nine-under 207, three shots behind winner Sophie Hausmann from Idaho who had a seven-under 65 in the final round to finish at 12-under 204. Leander made four birdies and 13 pars before finishing with a bogey during the third round. Leander ended the tournament with 12 birdies and 39 pars made.

Abegail Arevalo recorded her first top-10 finish this season and second in her career as she tied for seventh at three-over 219. She shot even-par 72 in the second and third rounds and made four birdies in the final round.

Franziska Friedrich finished tied for 21st at 225 after shooting a 78 in round two and a 75 in round three. She made three birdies and nine pars in the final round.

Elizabeth Schultz tied for 25th at 226 after shooting 74 and 79 in the last two rounds. Alexandra Cooper tied for 39th at 231 after shooting 72-77 in rounds two and three. Each had two birdies in the final round.

Playing as an individual, Arielle Caronna tied for 77th at 243 as she shot 81-82-80 for the three rounds.

"This win was a team effort the past two days," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "Every player contributed to the team score. My had a solid tournament for us with her second-place finish. It is not often that you shoot nine-under par and not win. Abby had a really good tournament except for a few holes in the first round. Everyone contributed and had their moments on the course for us.

"We are all ready seeing the benefits of our new practice facility as our bunker play has improved tremendously this semester. While we can celebrate today, we have to get right back on the course Thursday and get ready for next week's tournament."

San José State competes next Monday and Tuesday, March 6 and 7, at the Bay Area Intercollegiate to be played at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
