Final Stats

San Diego, Calif. - Four Spartans scored in double figures, with two recording double doubles, and the team enjoyed its best shooting performance of the season in San José State women's basketball's 99-90 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs on Wednesday night in Viejas Arena.

The win is just the second for the Spartans in 13 attempts on the Aztecs' home court and the only one since a 65-62 victory in San Diego in the 2001-02 season. Combined with SJSU's 81-80 overtime win against SDSU on January 11 on Walt McPherson Court, San José State (8-15, 5-6 MW) has swept the season series and won three of the last four meetings between the two teams.

Dezz Ramos had 27 points to lead all scorers and dished out a career-high 12 assists. Paris Baird chipped in with a career-high 16 points and a game-high 12 boards. Myzhanique Ladd and Fa-Ko-Fieme'a Hafoka each recorded career-highs with 17 and five points, respectively. Jasmine Smith had 14 points and Andrea Kohlhaas equaled her career-high with nine.

San José State scored the first bucket of the game, a Baird three-pointer, and held a six-point lead, 21-15, with 3:55 to go in the first period. But in a scene that has become all to familiar to the Spartans and their fans, the opponent, on this night the Aztecs, went on a 16-2 run to close the period and led 31-23 after 10 minutes. SDSU shot a gaudy 69 percent for the quarter including hitting 5-of-7 threes, four of which came in the run at the end of the period.

San Diego State (8-14, 3-8 MW) built its largest lead of the game, 11 points, with 7:19 to go in the second. Kohlhaas began the Spartans comeback with a three-pointer, both Baird and Ramos pitched in four points apiece and by halftime the advantage was trimmed to a manageable five points, 47-42.

SJSU tied the game three times in the third, but could never take the lead and it was 73-70 San Diego State heading into the fourth period.

The final 10 minutes was all Spartans. Kohlhaas' three at 8:35 gave San José State the lead and from there they methodically pulled away for the 99-90 win. In the quarter, SJSU was 9-of-10 from the field including 2-of-3 from three-point range and they knocked down 9-of-10 free throws. San Jose State held the Aztecs to one shot on 10 of their 12 misses in the fourth period.

As a team, Spartans enjoyed their best shooting game of the season, hitting 37-of-67 from the floor (55.2 percent) and for the second game in a row controlled the glass, outrebounding San Diego State 41-33. San José State outscored SDSU in the paint 34-to-28 and its bench was three-points better than SDSU's 22-to-19.

The Spartans return to The Event Center for their next game. On Saturday they host UNLV with the tip set for 2:00 p.m. on Walt McPherson Court.
