Monterey, Calif.----- The San Jose State University #3-pair of Giulia Gavio and Luiza Andrade were the Spartans only winning pair in a 4-1 loss to #13-ranked Grand Canyon University in the final match of the Monterey Invitational Beach Volleyball Tournament for both teams.
Gavio and Andrade played together for the first time this season and posted a 21-19, 15-21, 22-20 three-set win over Jordyn Sanchez and Hannah Towne. For Gavio, it was her sixth win of the season and tied her with Summer Avery and Kaitlynn Zdroik for most individual wins.
San Jose State finished the tournament with a 2-2 record after posting 5-0 sweeps over Portland and San Francisco in first-day action.
The Spartans return to action, Friday, March 24, taking on Saint Mary's and #14-California in a doubleheader in Berkeley starting at 10:00 a.m.
