STOCKTON, Calif. - The San Jose State University baseball team gave up leads of six and four runs to Pacific and lost 12-10 on Tuesday night at Klein Family Field.
Spartans fell to 9-10 overall while the Tigers improved its overall record to 9-10.
The Spartans got off to a quick start scoring six runs in the top of the first, sending 10 batters to the plate. Kellen Strahm got the first hit for the Spartans, extending his hit streak to 16 games, and scored the first run of the game. In the inning, the Spartans collected six hits.
Pacific came back in the second, mirroring SJSU's production with six hits and six runs to tie the game.
SJSU retook the lead in the top of the third, scoring two runs and adding two more in the seventh to take a 10-6 lead into the bottom of the eighth.
Spartan relievers Eric Anderson (3 IP, 3 H, 3 SO), Jakob Gonzalez (1 IP, 2 SO) and Jackson Cunningham (1 IP, 2 SO) combined to shutout the Pacific lineup between the third and seventh innings to maintain the lead for SJSU.
But in the eighth, the Tigers got to the Spartans bullpen for another six-run inning, on six singles, a balk, walk and a wild pitch, to win 12-10.
The Spartans travel to Hawaii on Wednesday to play a four-game series against the University of Hawaii starting Thursday, March 23. First pitch is 6:35 p.m. HT.
