Eugene, Ore.----- The San Jose State University men's golf team is in 13th place out of 15 teams after playing the first two rounds of the Oregon Duck Invitational.
The Spartans posted a 36-hole score of 602 on the par 71, 7,020-yard Eugene Golf Club. Host Oregon is the team leader at eight-under par 560. Arizona is in second place at 570, 10 strokes behind the Ducks. Oregon State, third at 573, San Diego State, fourth at 577, and Utah, fifth at 578, round out the top five teams.
Sophomore Charles Thompson had the best day for San Jose State with a six-over par 148 and is tied for 36th place. Thompson posted identical scores of three-over 74. Sophomore Kevin Velo matched Thompson's 74 in his morning round, but shot a 76 in the afternoon for a 150.
Scott Munger is tied for 60th at 151; William Barnett, 68th at 153; and Matthew Murray, 86th with a 162 round out San Jose State's lineup.
Oregon's Sulman Raza, playing as an individual entry, leads all players with an 11-under par 131. Raza was the first-round leader with a 67 and then posted the best score of the day with his second-round, seven-under par 64.
The 54-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes on March 28.
