Kapalua, Hawaii-San José State women's golfer My Leander shot her 13th under-par round of the season and is tied for second after two rounds of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic. The Spartans are in third place at 585.
Leander shot a two-under 70 and is tied with two Arizona State players for second place at two-under 142. She started her round by making four consecutive pars, before going bogey-birdie on holes 5 and 6. Leander then finished the front nine with three pars. She started the back-nine with a birdie on #10, followed by four pars, a birdie on #15, and ended with three pars. Leander is tied for second in the tournament in pars made with 28.
Abegail Arevalo shot one-over 73 on Tuesday and is eighth at one-over 145. Arevalo played the front-nine holes at one-over par with a bogey on #2 and eight pars. She started the final nine holes with two consecutive pars, followed by two bogeys, then made birdies on two of the final five holes. Arevalo leads the tournament field in pars made with 29.
Franziska Friedrich shot her second consecutive 75 and is tied for 21st at 150. She made 14 pars and a birdie on #15 during the round.
Alexandra Cooper made the biggest jump on the leader board for the Spartans, shooting a 74 in the second round and is tied for 28th at 152. She improved her score by four shots and moved up 15 spots.
Elizabeth Schultz rounded out the Spartan scoring with an 81 and is now tied for 41st at 155.
San José State was one shot better in the second round with a 292 and is third at 585. #7 UCLA leads the tournament at 572 after shooting a seven-under 281 in the second round. The Spartans trail #4 Arizona State by five shots, and the team leads #33 Colorado by five shots and #1 Stanford by six shots.
"Today was another solid team effort," said SJSU head coach John Dormann. "My continues to play great, and Abby is developing into an outstanding competitor. She battles for every shot, every round.
"In tomorrow's final round, we have another opportunity to play with and compete against some of the best teams and players in the country. These experiences will serve our players well for the remainder of the season. We have nothing to lose tomorrow."
