Eugene, Oregon --- In the final round of the Oregon Duck Invitational the San José State University men's golf team climbed one spot up the leaderboard to tie for 12th place.
The Spartans played their best round of golf in the final 18 holes shooting 11-over par 295. No team shot under par in the final round at the par-71 7,020-yard Eugene Golf Club. In the 54-hole tournament the Spartans posted a total score of 897.
Kevin Velo and Scott Munger both tied for 37th, and shot a total score of nine-over par 222. Velo shot one-over par 72 in round three. Munger had the best Spartan score in the tournament shooting even-par 71 on the day.
Charles Thompson shot nine-over par 80 and finished with a three-round score of 15-over par 228.
William Barnett tied at 73rd place with a score of 17-over par 230.
Matthew Murray shot 24-over par 237, and tied for 83rd.
The only team to finish the tournament under par was first place Oregon. They finished with a score of eight-under par 844. The second-place team, Arizona, shot 18-strokes behind the Ducks with a 10-over par 862.
Three Oregon Ducks players ended the tournament on top of the leaderboard. First place, Sulman Raza, played as an individual and shot eight-under par 205. Wyndham Clark was second at five-under par 208. Norman Xiong was third shooting four-under par 209.
The Spartans will travel to Stanford next to play at The Goodwin on March 30- April 1.
