Women's Tennis Loses To Saint Mary's, 4-2

March 3, 2017

San Jose, Calif.----- Despite taking a 1-0 lead after the completion of doubles, San Jose State University lost to Saint Mary's, 4-2, in a non-conference women's tennis match at the Almaden valley Athletic Club.

The Spartans (4-4) were able to win only one singles match when senior Marie Klocker posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jacqueline Pelletier. Klocker also teamed with Sybille Gauvain to defeat Danielle McIntyre and Emma Critser, 7-5, at #1-doubles.

Saint Mary's clinched the win when Jana McCord topped San Jose State's Sybille Gauvain, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, in the only three-set singles match of the contest.

"We had a good start winning the doubles point. Moving into singles, we had some momentum and the matchups we wanted, but we weren't able to close out the opportunities we created," said San Jose State head coach Chad Skorupka.

"This team will bounce back for our match vs. Portland."

The Spartans return to action, Saturday, March 4, hosting Portland, in a non-conference match at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club starting at 1:30 p.m.
