San Jose, Calif.- San José State women's gymnasts Taylor Chan and Stephanie Relova have been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Freshman and Specialist of the Week, respectively, for their performances against Utah State this past Sunday.
For the sixth time this season, Chan was honored by the conference's coaches after winning two event titles on Sunday. She tied her career-high with a 9.850 on beam for her second beam title of the season. Chan then set a career-best on the floor with a 9.925 for her fourth consecutive floor title and fifth this year. Her floor score matched the highest score in the MPSF this year and tied for the 11th all-time in the conference. She is also the 10th gymnast in school history to score a 9.925 on the floor. Chan added a career-best 9.800 on vault to finish second.
Relova tied her career best on bars with a 9.825 to finish in third place, and added a 9.800 on beam to tie for third place. This is her second MPSF Specialist award this season.
Both gymnasts helped the Spartans to a 195.150-194.025 win over #22 Utah State. The team score was the second-highest for San José State this season.
San José State travels to Arkansas this Friday for a meet against the Razorbacks and Centenary at 7 p.m. CT/5 p.m. PT.
