March 7, 2017

Fairfax, Calif.-- San José State senior women's golfer My Leander shot a three-under 69 in the final round of the Meadow Club Intercollegiate to win the individual title with a five-under 211 Tuesday.

Leander started the day in second place at two-under 142, and one shot behind Siyun Liu from Illinois. Leander began the final round on hole eight and birdied the par-three 139-yard hole. She then made seven consecutive pars before a bogey on #16 put her back to even par. She made pars and #17 and #18 to stay at even before playing her final seven holes.

Over her final seven holes, Leander was three-under par, making back-to-back birdies on the par-five #1 and par-four #2. A par on hole three was followed by a birdie on the par-four #4, and then closed out her round with three pars.

Leander finished the tournament with 36 pars, 10 birdies and an eagle made. She has recorded under-par rounds in six consecutive rounds and seven of her eight rounds this spring. Leander won her second tournament of the season after winning the Ptarmigan Ram Classic to start the season with a six-under 210.

"I knew I needed to have some red numbers today," said Leander. "I went out there with a lot of confidence and gave myself opportunities to make birdies, especially over the last nine holes. I have gotten better as a putter and am not making as many bogeys now."
