#12-Ranked San Jose State Has Three Top-20 Opponents At Aztec Invitational

March 8, 2017

Looking to bounce back after losing its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) conference opener to #3-ranked UCLA, San Jose State University has three top-20 ranked opponents in the Aztec Invitational women's water polo tournament.

The #12-ranked Spartans (6-11) head into the tournament on March 11 & 12 taking on #13-ranked Indiana (11-2) and host San Diego State (5-7), ranked 17th in this week's Collegiate Water Polo Association's weekly national poll in first-day action. San Jose State wraps up the weekend with matches against #19-Wagner (6-9) and unranked Whittier College (2-5).

The Spartans hope to slow down Indiana, which has a nine-match winning streak entering the Aztec Invitational.

San Jose State improved defensively as February progressed and look to regain its team defensive efficiency after losing to UCLA, 24-2. The Spartans were on the short end of seven Bruin power play goals on nine opportunities. Presently, Carla Toha Vilanova and Donia Momen are the two Spartans with at least 20 goals on the season. Toha Vilanova is 13th in the MPSF in goals scored per match at 1.71 on her team-high 24 goals. Momen scored her 20th goal in the UCLA match.
