Reno, Nev.----- San Jose State University's bottom half of its singles lineup provided all of the wins in a 4-3 loss to Nevada in a Mountain West women's tennis match at the McArthur Tennis Center.
Tamara Culibrk, Miyo Kobayashi and Gaelle Rey won singles matches in the #4 through #6 slots in the lineup for the Spartans (10-6, 1-2 Mountain West). Culibrk needed three sets after losing her first set to Adriana Gergeyova, 1-6. Kobayashi, who extended her singles winning streak to eight, and Rey were straight set winners.
Culibrk's victory tied the score at 3-3. The only action remaining was the #1-singles match between San Jose State's Sybille Gauvain, ranked 84th nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, and Nevada's Claudia Herrero. After each player had won a set and with Herrero ahead, 3-1, Gauvain retired due to injury giving the win to the Wolf Pack's #1-player and the victory to Nevada (8-8, 2-1 Mountain West) on its Senior Day.
The Wolf Pack jumped out to a 1-0 lead after two wins in doubles. Sheila Morales and Biaga Delic ended an eight-match doubles winning streak for Gauvain and Marie Klocker with a 6-3 win. Marine Dans and Gaelle Rey were edged by Nevada's Herrero and Adriana Gergeyova, 7-5, at #2-doubles.
San Jose State concludes the regular season with home matches at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club, Wednesday, April 19, vs. Fullerton State at 1:00 p.m., and Saturday, April 22, vs. San Diego State, at noon. The conference contest with San Diego State will be Senior Day for the Spartans recognizing Klocker, Dans and Rey.
