Ryann Thomison Commits to Spartan Volleyball for 2017

April 17, 2017

San Jose, Calif.—Ryann Thomison, a 6-0 middle blocker from Sacramento, Calif., will join the San José State University volleyball team beginning with the 2017 season, as announced by head coach Jolene Shepardson.

Thomison graduates from Christian Brothers High School this spring. She is a four-year starter for her high school and a two-time All-Capital Athletic League honoree. Her team faced Archbishop Mitty in the first round of the 2016 CIF State Girls Volleyball Championship after winning the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division III Section with a 3-0 victory against Sonora. Thomison played at the 33rd annual Optimist All-Star game in Sacramento this past December on the Division II South team.

Thomison currently plays for the Northern California Volleyball Club. She has earned four Open Division Junior Olympic bids while playing club volleyball, and her 16s team (Five Starz) won the national championship in the national division (2015).

"Ryann has played at the highest level in Northern California and had a lot of success with both her club and high school teams," said Shepardson. "She brings an incredible, positive energy that will be contagious in our gym. Ryann has the work ethic and desire to learn, which will help her develop over the next four years and make our gym better."

"I made the decision to further my education and volleyball at San José State because I fell in love with the campus and its location," said Thomison. "I'm very thrilled about the high-caliber play at San José State. From the first visit, I knew I wanted to play here. I cannot wait to start my future as a Spartan!"
